Everything I Know About Business I learned From My Dog (Part Two)

I like to come home at the end of a long day and turn my mind off by watching a mindless T.V show. But my dog is not a T. V. lover he thinks there are better things I could do with my time. These “things” all involve me picking up a wet slimy, slobber filled dog toy. He will go to great lengths to get me off the couch. He starts with nudging my hand and then flopping a slimy toy on top of it. If he gets no reaction to this he will dash in quick and snatch the toy away showing me how the game is to be played. After several futile attempts he might try a sharp rebuking bark almost to say, “You’re not paying attention!” If this fails I get the stare. This is where he sits right in front of the T.V. and stares at me. This usually gets a response but never the one he is looking for. He will sigh and move over a foot and then for the entire show he will sit and stare at me. He wants to get my attention and he tries all sorts of silly things to get it. Usually he wins I can’t help but catch his enthusiasm for wet, slimy toys and before I know it I am fully engrossed in a game of play ball.

It is the same it thing in business, I can’t think that clients will just walk through the door if I don’t get their attention. That is why I put so much time into advertising and lately working on our web site. I have really come to enjoy the process of developing the web site. In some ways it is a lot like designing. The concept stage was a lot of fun, we could dream big and anything was possible. Then came the budgeting… not as much fun but reality had to be faced. Then the designs were presented. This was my favorite part because that is where the “what if’s” happen. What if we changed this and that; with minor changes the web site started to take shape. It is still being developed but please take a look and give me your feedback: www.changesbydesign.ca
